Understanding the No Surprises Act
What is the No Surprises Act?
The No Surprises Act (NSA) is federal legislation that went into effect on January 1, 2022. It protects patients from unexpected medical bills and promotes transparency in healthcare costs.
How This Affects Your Mental Health Care
Good Faith Estimates
If you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance, we will provide you with a written Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of expected charges before services begin
Your GFE will include expected charges for your initial appointment and any recurring services
You'll receive this estimate upon scheduling or upon request
Transparency in Billing
We commit to clear information about our fees before treatment begins
Our billing practices comply with all NSA requirements
We will inform you about any changes to your treatment plan that may affect costs
Your Rights
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of costs
You can initiate a dispute process if your bill exceeds your GFE by $400 or more
You can request an updated GFE at any time
Insurance Information
If you're using insurance, we will verify your benefits and explain any potential out-of-network costs
We will help you understand your financial responsibility based on your specific insurance plan
Our Commitment
Our practice is committed to transparent billing practices and clear communication about the cost of your care. We believe in helping you make informed decisions about your mental health treatment without the stress of unexpected financial burdens.
